Allow me to introduce you to Manuela, one of the strongest women I've ever met. I always recalled her as a vibrant, outgoing and smart person in our high school times. Those qualities continue to radiate from her today, more than ever. But there's more to her story, a journey that began on October 3, 2018 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. We hear about people getting diagnosed with cancer all the time, but to witness someone I personally knew was a perspective-altering experience.
Life, as she knew it, quickly began to turn into what many of us would call a nightmare. Surgeries, chemotherapy, emotional trauma, etc. It significantly impacted both her love and social spheres. You'd think through all this, life would bring her down to her knees, but she refused to bow down. Throughout this excruciating period, she carried on, showing up for work, determined to maintain a sense of normalcy in a world where it seemed like all odds were against her.
Through her faith in God and the unwavering support of her family and close friends, she was able to beat cancer. Even so, the scars from the past remained and life continued to challenge her. Like so many of us in today's world, she struggles with anxiety and its effects on mental health. However, her love for biking became a way for her to cope with all this, hence why we chose to incorporate this aspect of her life in the photoshoot.
Conversing with Manuela reminded me to always be grateful for what I have. Navigating my own health challenges has been a constant battle, yet in those moments of difficulty, I remind myself that there are individuals fighting battles far more fierce than mine. She symbolizes strength, courage, and hope. So Manuela, thank you for letting me tell your story. Your journey of this thing we call life is nothing short of inspiring. You're a beacon of hope for anyone who encounters the battles you have won.
