Monica graduated from Texas State University with her bachelor’s degree, and I had the privilege of capturing her graduation photos. Fast forward to 2026, she reached out once again, but this time to document an even bigger achievement: earning her master’s degree.

During our session, she talked about how challenging it was having to commute to 3 different cities in one day in order to work her full-time teaching job, while continuing her education. As a Latina, she also struggled with imposter syndrome, fighting with moments of doubt and questioning whether she truly belonged in the spaces her degree opened up for her.

Monica’s journey was inspired by her grandfather, who migrated to the United States in search of better opportunities for future generations. From a young age, she promised herself she would honor his sacrifices—and she did just that, becoming the first in her family to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Truly inspiring.
