This year (2022) for spring break, I hit the road for an amazing roadtrip. We began the journey in west Texas at the Monahans Sandhills State Park. The sunset here was amazing! It's a bit hard to believe you're actually in Texas. The following morning we packed up camp and headed to New Mexico. There, we spent the next 2 days exploring the caves in Carlsbad Caverns, camping at Chaco Canyon and my favorite, visiting Shiprock. I had seen many pictures and videos of Shiprock online, but being there in person was just a whole different experience. The journey continued in Colorado where our first stop was in Durango. We spent half of our first day there on the Durango & Silverton Train, which took us north through the San Juan National Forest on a very scenic ride. Highly recommend this for families with kids. They will love it! Before beginning the drive home, we decided to ascend Pikes Peak. It's about a 2 hour roundtrip drive with many stopping points along the way to take in the amazing views. I will say, the last 20 minutes of driving to the top was a bit nerve wrecking, considering we were over 14,000 feet above sea level on a narrow road with no guard rails. But, we made it. Descending the summit was just as scary, but in my opinion, well worth it. The views up there are incredible.
